Mark Zuckerberg unveils Meta

Mark Zuckerberg is changing Facebook to a new brand, Meta. This will be the name of the group that will encompass all its platforms, including the famous social network.

After almost an hour and a half presentation at the Connect event of his future metaverse project, the founder of the social network announced the transformation. "From now on, we're going to be metaverse first and not Facebook. That means that, over time, you won't need to use Facebook to use our other services. And as our new brands start appearing on our products, I hope people will get to know the Meta brand and the future we represent," he said.

Zuckerberg has declared himself inspired by ancient Greece: "I loved studying the classics and the word meta comes from Greek and means beyond. To me, it symbolises that there is always something more to build. There is always the next chapter of the story. And for us, it's a story that started in a garret and grew beyond what we could imagine to become a family of apps that people use to find each other, to find their voice and to start businesses and communities and movements that have changed the world".

Zuckerberg has described what the immersive virtual reality calls he is preparing will look like in the future, which will require special glasses that will enable many other activities, from attending concerts, markets and even gyms. The Facebook founder explained that his project is about the future, his ten-year vision, and declared himself "genuinely optimistic about working in the metaverse". "This is going to be a turning point for society and business," he added.

Mark Zuckerberg also introduced his project for new reality glasses, Project Cumbria, which will even make it possible to create a virtual world identical to the one around them, and the Nazareth Project for augmented reality.
